Starting a business can be overwhelming, here are some basic guidelines to help:

Guidelines:

Prior to leasing or purchasing a building check if your business is an allowed use in the zone you have chosen.  This can be done by going to the  Morgan City or Morgan County  websites and looking under land use Codes or Zoning. You can call the Planning and Zoning Departments Morgan City (801) 829-3461 ext.1065 and Morgan County (801)845-4059.

Building inspectors must be contacted to ensure the building is in compliance with the desired business to be conducted. Morgan City Mark Schmid (801) 829-3461 ext 1078 and Morgan County Kent Smith (801)845-4008.   Keep in mind Not every building is suited for every use.  Changing the use for a building often triggers code issues (sometimes costly) that need to be discussed and understood, prior to purchasing or leasing. If any remodeling is to be done, a building permit must be issued.

Your next step is to obtain a business license and to register your new business with the State of Utah.  Visit the  State’s Commerce site for the registration steps, then contact Morgan City or Morgan County business licensing Official Morgan City (801) 829-3461 ext. 1062, Morgan County (801)845-4010.

If you chose to have a business operated in your home, a home occupation application needs to be filled out, pay the processing fee and receive an approval by the Planning Commission prior to the issuing of a Business License.
